Benton PUD

April 5th, 2009 Posted in 123 triad

Benton PUD was organized by a local vote of the people in 1934. On September 12, 1946 it became an operating utility and assumed operation of the electrical distribution system from Pacific Power and Light serving 3,754 customers. Benton PUD purchases the majority of its power from the Bonneville Power Administration. Over 85% of the power is from clean, renewable hydropower.

Benton PUD is recognized throughout the Northwest for its progressive attitude and capable employees. Washington’s first initiative, approved by voters in 1930, gave citizens of each county the right to form a PUD. Today, twenty-eight PUD’s serve more than 1.5 million citizens throughout Washington. Green power purchased by Benton PUD is placed into the northwest power grid. The concept is simply this- by purchasing green power from the most environmentally friendly energy suppliers, you are supporting renewable resources and helping to preserve their environment.
